Minister says farmers lose 2 bln rbl/year from animal diseases

MOSCOW, Apr 16 (PRIME) -- Russian farmers lose 2.3 billion rubles per year from animal diseases, including African swine fever and bird flu, Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said at a meeting of the ministry on Tuesday.

“Speaking about successes of animal breeding, we must remember that its development is necessarily connected with the epizootic situation in the country,” Patrushev said.

“The losses that the agriculture bears, for instance, from African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, leucosis or bird flu exceed 2.3 billion rubles per year.”

He said that boosting the quality of veterinary monitoring is a most urgent issue.

“We need to formalize in legislation the mechanisms of interaction between all the links of veterinary services as elements of a unified national veterinary control system,” he said.
